*DENSE FOG ADVISORY region-wide until 9AM*
*FLOOD ADVISORY for Winneshiek County until 7:30PM today*
We'll be dealing with dense fog this morning until winds pick up and rain moves in. Visibilities of 1/4 mile or less are likely region-wide.
Today's rain is thanks to an area of low pressure lifting up from the Plains. This low is a bit stronger than the low that lifted through yesterday, and we'll be dealing with rain into early evening. There's a bit more instability with this system, and you could hear a stray rumble of thunder, especially in southern parts of the region. Warm, moist air will bring highs to the low-50s. East winds will pick up to 5-15 mph.
Rain tapers off overnight as the mercury drops to the low-40s with east winds at 5-10 mph.
Friday looks like a relatively quiet day, with a small chance for rain, mainly in the morning. Winds shift to the northeast and stay light at 5-10 mph. Rain chances pick up Friday night into Saturday as we start getting some wrap-around rain from the east.
With all the rain and melting snow, local water ways are rising. A Flood Advisory is in effect for Winneshiek County until 7:30PM this evening due to reports of minor flooding on fields and over local roads.
After a small chance for light rain on Sunday, a ridge of high pressure moves in on Monday for a quiet, mild start to our work week. We may see a few more clouds on Tuesday, but, overall, today's data are keeping us relatively dry and mild until the end of next week.
The bottom line: Dense AM fog, then rain and maybe a rumble of thunder. -- Josh Blumenfeld
