November is National Adoption Month, and Lutheran Social Services is bringing together families who have been touched by adoption.
"Adoption is special..it's a blessing," says John and Karla Potzner, who adopted their son, Cameron, four years ago.
The Potzner family adopted Cameron through Lutheran Social Services, which provides many services to families in Wisconsin and upper Michigan. An event Sunday brought together 25 families who have been touched by adoption. "We provide international adoption services, domestic adoption services, special needs adoption, birthparent counselling for women and couples who are considering placing a child for adoption," says Laura Conley with Lutheran Social Services. "We do step-parent and relative adoptions and also independent adoptions."
Services like the adoption gathering Sunday are very meaningful to families like the Potzners. "The program's been very special to us, and that's why we're here tonight celebrating adoption and celebrating families and celebrating Cameron."
"For families looking for a way to add another member to their family, it's invaluable," Conley says. "I can't even put into words what I feel about adoption, and it's changed and blessed our lives and also Cameron's birth family," Karla Potzner says.
