La Crosse schools say more students are back in school this week after benig out sick with flu symptoms.
Aquinas High School Principal Ted Knutson tells NewsChannel 8 45 students were out sick with flu symptoms Wednesday, down from around 60 earlier in the week.
Knutson says no athletics or activities were impacted this week by the sick students. He says custodial staff are doing twice as much disinfection inside the school in common areas to prevent the spread of germs.
Knutson says, "We're telling people if they aren't feeling well they should just stay home. It's better for their own health and the health of the other students."
Each day the school collects homework for each student out sick and a parent stops by to pick it up so that kids aren't getting behind in their classes.
Aquinas reports the number of students that are sick each day, and their symptoms, to the county health department.
And like many of the other schools in the area they do have a crisis plan.
However the prinicipal says they are far from needing to put that plan into place.
More students are back in school today at Logan High School. Principal Scott Mihalovic says 36 students are out sick Wednesday, down from more than 60 last week. Mihalovic says that makes up about two or three percent of the student population.
Central High School Principal Tom Barth says 40 students are out sick with fly symptoms. Barth says students are being encouraged to use hand sanitizer, which is available in all classrooms.
