Canvassing Board to Decide Disputed Minnesota Senate Race

Posted: Updated:

(AP) Secretary of State Mark Ritchie has announced the canvassing board that will determine whether Republican Norm Coleman or Democrat Al Franken won Minnesota's Senate race.

The board will be the final word on disputed ballots in the recount. The members include Ritchie, two state Supreme Court justices appointed by Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty and two Ramsey County judges.

The justices are Supreme Court Chief Justice Eric Magnuson and Justice G. Barry Anderson. Pawlenty appointed Magnuson in March and named Anderson in 2004.

The Ramsey County judges are Chief Judge Kathleen Gearin and Judge Edward Cleary. Gearin won election to the bench in 1986 while Cleary was appointed in 2002 by then-Gov. Jesse Ventura, an Independence Party member.
