When it comes to Halloween, for many kids it's all about the candy. But, with childhood obesity rates on the rise, some parents are looking for healthier options.
Dieticians recommend handing out treats that have fewer calories like licorice, packets of microwave popcorn or sugar free gum. They say limiting the amount of candy your kids eat is also important.
"Looking at portions can sometimes make a big difference in controlling the calories that anyone is going to consume," says Franciscan Skemp Registered Dietician Ruth Vach. "I suggest looking at 100 calories as a target for a snack."
It's also important parents check over all the candy your children collect to make sure its sealed and safe to eat.
