Fort McCoy Gets Support From Local Communities

Posted: Updated:

Each year, Fort McCoy helps bring $1 billion dollars into nearby communities, including Sparta and Tomah.

Wednesday, city and military leaders put their committment to each other in writing.  The mayors of Tomah and Sparta joined military leaders at Fort McCoy to sign the Army Community Covenant.  The covenant is designed to foster and improve the quality of life of our nation's soldiers.

"It's about an affair of the hearts, this is more than a money game, it's about taking care of our great defenders," said Major General James Sholar, Fort McCoy's Senior Mission Commander.

"We're puting it down in writing exactly how we feel," said Tomah's Mayor Ed Thompson.  "Let's give the soldiers the best time they can before they go and when they come back."

Some of the community support for soldiers and their families includes adopt-a-soldier programs, tickets to events and military discounts from local businesses.
