Police: Drinking Involved in Fatal Bluff Fall

La Crosse Police say the woman who died after falling from Grandad Bluff may have tried to hide from authorities before her death.

Chief Ed Kondracki says 19-year-old Kimberly Coppens became separated from friends early Saturday morning at the end of Grandad Bluff. Kondracki says Coppens may have attempted to hide when a La Crosse County Sheriff's Department deputy located her friends in a vehicle at the end of Grandad Bluff Road.

Coppens' friends reported her missing at around 3:30 Saturday morning. One of Coppens' friends found her body at 1:00 p.m. Saturday on a hillside below the Grandad Bluff overlook.

Kondracki says underage drinking was involved in Coppens death. Sources say she was drinking the night of her death. Toxicology results from an autopsy performed on Coppens are not yet available.
