Bright green license plates could soon identify Wisconsin's worst sex offenders. A bill that would make that change is moving one step closer to becoming law.
The measure cleared the Assembly's Criminal Justice Committee on an 8-to-3 vote, Wednesday. Opponents argue that marking cars, driven by serious child molesters and sexually violent offenders, is unconstitutional. But, supporters say the license plates would help children avoid being the victim of a crime.
The bill must clear the Assembly and the Senate, and be signed by Governor Jim Doyle, before it becomes law.
