WKBT La Crosse, WI-NewsChannel 8-La Crosse Diocese prepares for future without Bishop Jerome Listecki

The La Crosse Catholic Diocese will again be without a leader soon. As we first reported Saturday, the Pope appointed Bishop Jerome Listecki to head the archdiocese of Milwaukee.
Monday, the Diocese of La Crosse was busy answering questions about Bishop Listecki's new appointment and explaining the process from here. The Diocese of La Crosse has about two months to tie up any unfinished business and prepare Bishop Listecki for his new roll.
Ben Nguyen, Chancellor of the La Crosse Diocese says, "he's technically the Archbishop elect of Milwaukee. So he belongs to Milwaukee, but in the two months that he is still here he can still administer the Diocese. As a matter of fact, his power is as a diocesan and administrator now and not as a diocesan and bishop."
Bishop Listecki officially assumes his roll as Archbishop of Milwaukee sometime in January. The last time La Crosse was without a bishop, it took 14 months to fill the position. Church officials in La Crosse hope to make this transition period shorter than the last, but it's ultimately up to the Vatican.
In the meantime, an administrator will be elected within the next six days to take care of the diocese during the transition period.
