A La Crosse area music teacher is hitting all the right notes and now his school is benefiting from it.
Bill Doolan has taught band in the Kickapoo School District for the past 30 years. After submitting a grant, Doolan was selected out of two-thousand applicants nationwide to receive the "Mr. Holland's Opus" Foundation band award.
The school district is also getting $10,000 worth of new band instruments. Doolan says the money will allow more students to make music.
Doolan says, "in the economic times we have right now in the valley, you know that we can use anything that we can get to help some of these under-privileged kids or any students at all to get a horn in their hands so they have a chance to make music throughout their elementary and high school career."
Doolan says his goal is to make music fun for all students.
