A soldier at Fort McCoy is injured after an explosive device accidentally goes off during a training exercise.
Fort McCoy spokesperson Linda Fournier tells NewsChannel 8 the accident happened Saturday afternoon.
The soldier, who works as a trainer for the Regional Training Center North at Fort McCoy, was setting up an improvised explosive device (IED) for a simulated exercise when it was pulled from his hand by an attached string.
The solder was able to take cover before the device exploded, but he injured his foot when debris from the blast went through his boot. The soldier also had a minor injury to his knee.
He was taken to a hospital in Sparta, where he was treated and released.
Fournier says the Regional Training Center North handles pre-mobilzation training for soliders.
