ADOPTED
Meet Parsley, a young female domestic rabbit. Parsley found herself at our organization after her owner had to surrender her along with 16 of her family members. Her former owner purchased 2 rabbits about a year ago. Over the past year, the original 2 rabbits turned in to at least 17 rabbits! The rabbits became to overwhelming to provide proper care for. In addition, their former owner lost her home leaving the rabbits in peril. Parsley is now in need of a new home providing her a second chance at living in a home that will love her and care for her properly, including keeping her as an indoor rabbit.
Did you know that a well-cared for indoor rabbit can live as long as 10-12 years? Rabbits are most successful as indoor companions-being indoors keeps them out of the extreme cold and extreme heat, and allows you and your rabbit to get to know each other and to become friends. Indoor rabbits are called "House Rabbits" and there is a fantastic organization called Wisconsin House Rabbit Society that has a variety of in-depth literature on successfully living with rabbits available at www.wisconsinhrs.org.
Adding a rabbit to your life is a serious commitment. Rabbits require daily spot cleaning of their kennels (which should be large enough for them to hop for a few feet from one end to another) and a complete top-to-bottom cleaning at least weekly. Rabbits eat commercial rabbit pellets as their primary source of food, but in addition, require leafy greens and vegetables to keep up their level of Vitamin C, as well as Timothy Hay to promote digestion. Rabbits can be litter box trained, and many people keep their House Rabbits just as you would for a cat-free-roaming in the house when you're at home and can supervise and play with your rabbit. They can then be in their kennel for unsupervised time and overnight.
