A group of teenagers is trying to create awareness about the new cigarette tax in Wisconsin as well as the dangers of smoking.
Members of Fighting Against Corporate Tobacco or FACT made a human billboard at the intersection of La Crosse and 4th streets in downtown La Crosse Monday.
The sign read: 75 cents equals 33-thousand teens spared from big tobacco.
Members of the group say the tax increase is a good thing to help fight teen smoking because most teenagers can't afford to pay the higher cost. Jordy McKay says, "teen smoking is a really big issue and a lot of people die from tobacco and tobacco related illnesses and it's not just something that affects one person. It affects everybody." Greta Wintersteen says, "You do impact a lot of people when you do this. Even if its just one kid driving by he might see this and think or something."
After Tuesday's cigarette tax increase, Wisconsin will have the fifth highest cigarette tax in the country.
