A survey team from the National Weather Service in La Crosse confirms a tornado touchdown in Crawford County.
The team surveyed damage Tuesday in the Mount Sterling area of northern Crawford County.
The team says the tornado that hit the area Monday evening was rated an EF-1, which means it had wind speeds of 86-100 miles per hour. (Click here to learn more about tornado strength ratings)
The National Weather Service tells NewsChannel 8 this is the first confirmed tornado in Crawford County since June 17, 1987.
The team says the tornado touched down one mile east of Fairview and stayed on the ground for about four miles, or five miles west of Soldiers Grove.
The tornado was an EF-0 for most of it's path, but at one point reached EF-1 wind speeds.
Crawford County Sheriff Jerry Moran says the tornado caused about $250,000 in damage, including destroyed barns, damage to homes and uprooted trees.
