UW System campuses made progress on plans to prevent and respond to mass shootings.
At UW La Crosse, the campus police chief says they've had an emergency response plan in place since the mid-90's.
After the Virginia Tech massacre two years ago, UW-L, along with all other state colleges, revised their security plans to include how to react in catastrophes and when there's a shooter on campus.
There's also a plan in case of a flu pandemic. UW-L's police chief says this plan is in place so people have the answers they need when an emergency happens.
"Try to prepare people for that unlikely event but to five them a sense of what would happen and how the university would respond in that event. That way they can have at least some comfort in knowing what the process should be," said Chief Scott Rohde, UW La Crosse Police.
The UW System report also says security plans will take longer to fully take effect because of budget issues campuses are facing.
