COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) - Citing academic issues, University of Iowa receiver Shane Prater is heading to Iowa Western Community College.

Prater didn't meet minimum academic requirements during his freshmen year to stay eligible at Iowa.

He tells the Omaha World-Herald for a Saturday story that it was hard to cope at school "with the party life" and football.

Prater says he hopes to stay at Iowa Western for at least a year to work on his grades, but could potentially return to Iowa.

Prater plans to sign a letter of intent with the Reivers next week and is expected to be at their preseason camp in August.

He and his twin brother, defensive back Shaun Prater, had both received scholarships to Iowa. The duo helped Omaha Central win its first state football championship in more than two decades.
